Stephenson died in the house on October 10, 1822 and visitors will get a glimpse of the mourning customs practiced by the family almost two hundred years ago.

To do so, volunteers canvass designated routes around town to count white squirrels, gray squirrels, fox squirrels, and stray cats. Counters will also note feeding sites, dreys (squirrel nests), and note any observations that may be useful.

    A select few each week will be eligible to win a prize exclusive to the Squirrel Count.

    This fall, we are having a chili cook-off that starts at 10:00a with judging at 12:00p. Bring your homemade chili and join the fun! Cost to enter your chili is $25 with winners receiving a cash payout! All types of chili welcome!

    Do not forget to stop by and visit the wonderful booths that will be set up with items that are vintage, antique, re-purposed, handmade and homegrown! Lots of items for your home and outdoor spaces will be available!

    Do not forget your lawnchairs as we will have an Open Mic Jam from 12:00p – 4:00p. Do you love to sing? Join on in as sign-up is free! Serenade us with your voice and music!

    Popular Brewfest returns with a new twist! Sample tasty brews from regional brewers while being offered a taste of some selected restaurants along the Kaskaskia Cahokia Trail (KCT). The Brewfest is a Les Amis du Fort de Chartres fundraiser with a Brewfest participation fee for the event set for $20 and would include a complimentary tasting glass. Tickets ca be purchased on line at www.fortdechartres.us. Patrons must be 21 to participate with Brewfest armbands issued to each patron.

    The days free and open to the public education World War II encampment event will display the equipment of area reeanctors covering a wide variety of aspects of history’s largest conflict.

    The site is operated by the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency. IHPA protects the state’s historic resources, which contribute to education, culture and the economy. IHPA sites include ancient burial mounds, forts and buildings erected by settlers, and homes connected to famous Illinoisans.
